So I went over to Rivington Arms the other day to check the Lansing-Dreiden Installation. Upon entry I was handed a paper about the exhibition which read, "What Was Once One" demonstrates Lansing-Dreiden's interest in the reinterpretation of established source material using their own rigid collage process. Forms, Patterns or photographic imagery are cropped and or isolated using strict rules agreed upon before the source material is ever seen, so that the formal decisions are, in fact, group decisions. Opposing forces in the work- represented by light versus darkness, sleek versus jagged, ambition versus apathy, cement versus stone- permeate the collection portraying the dynamic between "Myth and Method" (two islands that split from one, and develop over the years into diametrically opposed communities.)
Rivington arms has since taken down the exhibit but you can check out some pictures of the pieces on their site. I was also handed a copy of "D.I. by D.D." which is a remix CD that sonically represents the same idea of reinterpretation. Posted is "One for All" from their last album "The Diving Island" as well as the remix entitled "Such a Shame" produced by Dazzle D (Which is available for purchase through their myspace page.)
In short, the LD collective never ceases to amaze me. The concept was well thought out and executed. They move in an extremely different manner then every other band (or 'company' for that matter) and I eagerly await LD Section 3.
